A Guide to playing poker for beginners

If you are eager to learn how to play poker easily, quickly, and profitably then this guide might help you out. Before you get started on online casino slots and poker, there are basic rules which you will need to adhere to when it comes to playing poker, which you will have to familiarize with. The beginner mistake normally happens when someone tends to think they have winning poker hands when in reality, they don’t have.

Here is how a basic poker game works:

  • The dealer deals everyone with two cards starting with the player who is on their left and ends with themselves. The player who is on the left of the dealer is the first player who will have to act and they have a choice to either;
    • Bet
    • Check  ( which is basically doing nothing)

In case they decide to bet, then the rest of the players have the option of either:

    • Call – meaning they match the amount of raise into the pot
    • Fold – giving up the hand and all the chips which they have already placed in the pot
    • Raise – put more chips into the pot

This will continue until everyone has called all the chips have been put in the middle

Once the first betting round is done,  the dealer deals three cards face-up on the board. They are referred to as community cards which everyone can be in a position to use. It is called the flop.

Everyone in the hands gets a chance to bet and to consequently fold or raise. Once the betting round is done, the dealer will be able to put a forth card on the table where anyone can have the opportunity to use. It is referred to as a turn.

Everyone again gets a chance to check/bet/fold/raise. The dealer will have to place the fifth card on the board which anyone can be able to use. It is referred to as a river. For the last time, everyone will have an opportunity to check/bet/fold/raise.

If for one reason or the other there is a player who still has a card in hand after the final betting hand and the cards are exposed and the player who has the highest-ranked hand will be the one who will win the pot.

What are blinds?

You might have come across the term blinds but they might not be as complicated as they sound. The big blinds and the small blinds are both relatively small bets which the two players on the direct left of the dealer are forced to put in the pot before the other hands start playing. You are forced to place them without having to see your cards and that is why it is called a blind – you do it blindly.

You can look at them as being ante if it feels easier for you that way. It is a feature which is not found in all the poker games otherwise, it could be misused in some games.
